Don’t Let Unethical Designs Kill Your Brand
Whether, it is your personal life or corporate life. Ethics is everything and is equally applicable in all aspects.
Your corporate identity is much important and is the thing, from which you get recognized in the world.
So, it is the utmost thing to care that nobody can get the wrong signals from your logo, even unintentionally. Some precautions are defined below, in this regard.
- Take care of copyright and all other legal issues
It is right to take care of your company’s copyrights, but if you really want to be successful, you must have to take care of other’s copyrights.
In case, you are using someone’s idea or design, it is your responsibility to take legal permission from them or it is necessary to get acknowledge to the original designer.
Taking ideas from the designer is not an offensive crime, but to make them in the dark is not right in any way. Even, if you have made your logo stunning with the help of some designer, it may considered to be a horrible thing for brand.
One of the case is about Designer Kenjiro Sano’s Tokyo in 2010, about the Olympic logo, in which “Belgian designer Olivier Debie claimed that the design was similar to his 2013 logo for the Theatre de Liege. He and the theatre had filed a lawsuit to prevent it being used.”
And, then the completely new logo was unveiled by the Games Organizing Committe. No result is gained, except that the brand’s image is badly hurt.
- Your brand should not be offensive to anyone
The Logo is for people. Make it sure that it should not hurt or being offensive to anyone, especially to the target audience. In this connected world, one must be sensitive to the environmental, cultural and gender issues.
Like, for example, a restaurant named Banh Shop was opened in Dallas offering Vietnamese cuisine. The logo has pointed red stars in it.
Which, found to be sensitive to the residents of the Vietnamese community. They associated it with an event happened at oppressive Communist concentration camps, in which many of their family and friend members have lost their lives.
In the world of social media, little thing may worsen your brand name and image. And, take the brands into uproar across the globe. So, don’t overlook this thing.
- Your brand should avoid reinforcing stereotypes
Reinforcing stereotypes in the designs and brand materials, should be clear. Not, it is ethically wrong, but it makes the things obsolete.
Obviously, who does not want to make a logo, startling and modern, that can stand equally for all races and genders. In fact, many custom logo creator have shared their experience that how quickly they are backfire, when they used such type of logo designs.
For example, some years before in Spain, a TV ad showed men and women cleaning their bathrooms and kitchen with smiles on their face.
In fact, they want to show that their customers are completely satisfied with their products. But, the stereotypes used in this as proved this ad, even worsen. And eventually, women come up with a protest because, of discrimination in the gender roles.
It reached to a state where this ad was banned, yet, Spain’s Consumers’ Association stated that ” We appeal to producers, advertisers and the media to once and for all put a stop to sexist stereotypes that belong to the past and should have no place in modern society.” Further, they added, “Advertising that presents women according to stereotypical roles, violates the foundation of our legal system and helps perpetuate gender violence.”
- You design should not look like something else due to bad designing
For all brands, it is a nightmare to even think about that their logo designs look like someone else’s brands. Also, a badly customize logo could also make your brand nasty and a joke of your brand. So, it is wise to show before finalizing your logo so as to avoid such unintended signals.
It is pretty sure that it is so unethical and insensitive, while designing your logo, in this way. Such branding material not only harm your business, but could not create a positive image of a brand. Take help from the ideas of other’s brand, but at the same time, create peace and equality in the world of brands.
